After a few conversations with Professor Dr. H. Caspers and different individuals on the triennial congress of the foreign organization of Theoretical and utilized Limnology (S. I. L. ) held in Copenhagen, Denmark (1977), the senior editor approached the overseas delegates on the enterprise assembly for approval of the idea that of retaining the 1st foreign Symposium on Aquatic Oligochaete Biology at Sidney (near Victoria) British Columbia on could 1-4, 1979. The S. I. L. agreed to sponsor this type of assembly, and this sponsorship in flip resulted in the availability of area and technical amenities on the Institute of Ocean Sciences Patricia Bay, the Pacific nearby headquarters of the sea and Aquatic Sciences part of the federal Fisheri~s and Oceans division. The nationwide study Council of Canada supplied trip aid for a few non-Canadian contributors. invites have been despatched to as many energetic employees within the box because the senior editor might identify, and also representatives of heavily allied fields have been invited - Dr. V. Standen who works with heavily comparable yet terrestrial species, and Dr. J. Grassle who works with polychaetes yet specially with Capitella capitata that is very like an oligochaete in a few points of its biolog- rather a lot in order that the senior editor in his salad days succumbed to a few ill-founded suggestion and defined Capitella as a brand new marine tubificid! The addition of those "outside" affects avoided the gang from creating a variety of unfounded assumptions in the course of discussions, and supplied useful cross-linkages.
