The most famous of these 'stragglers' are Yokoi Shoichi, who returned from Guam in 1972, and Onoda Hiro, who returned from Lubang in the Philippines in 1974; but Yokoi and Onoda had been preceded by a number of others, and were to be followed by one more 'straggler' as well.
