This casual attitude towards traffic and the hazards of a one-airfield air force were to plague both AM and commercial aviation at Tegucigalpa-Tocontin for many years. Ernie Hummel, an old Latin American hand, recalls being on the flight deck of a PanAm DC-3 on finals at Tegucigalpa ("Teh-Goose") in December 1940 when, with the airliner a hundred feet from touchdown, one of the AM Ryans swung onto the runway! The earliest of these also had the strange four-digit selials earlier, including 0848, 0106, 0481 and 0602 circa 1955 (FAG). A mix of T-6Gs and other "Texan" variants on the hard- standing at Los Cipresales in 1957, including FAG 220, 222, 224, 226 and 230.
